Introduction

The "Hotel Melanoma" moniker is a metaphor for living with my particular brand of cancer. Except for those lucky few of us deemed "cured", all we cancer survivors are guests of one of the many, many branded hotels in the "Hotel Carcinoma" chain. We can check out any time we like, but we can never leave. Meanwhile, let's be livin' it up; and please support cancer education, prevention, and treatment research.

For World Cancer Day

If it wasn’t for my friend Al’s fine blog post (http://blackispink.blogspot.com/2013/02/world-cancer-dayfebruary-4-2013.html) I wouldn’t have known that today is World Cancer Day. (And here I’d been thinking that today was merely an unofficial national day of healing for those afflicted with post-Super Bowl hangovers and lost game bets.) I wonder if that “Tan Your Hide” location down the hill from my place will be offering any sort of promotional discounts to commemorate the day?

I don’t have any wise or inspirational words to offer up today, just some fractured lyrics to a great old song, because that’s what I do. To the tune of Bob Seger’s “We’ve Got Tonight”…

bob seger we got tonight by iowaluder

I know it’s fate, I know you're weary
I know your plans don't include C
Still here we are, most of us lonely
Longing for shelter from all that is C
Why should C worry, no one will dare cure
Look at the scars we wear today
We've got to fight, who needs more sorrow?
We've got to fight babe
Why not today?

Deep in my soul, I've been so lonely
All of my hopes, fading away
I've longed for one, like everyone else does
I know I'll keep searching, even after today
So there it is girl, I've said it all now
And here we are babe, what do you say?
We've got to fight, who needs more sorrow?
We've got to fight babe
Why not today?

I know it's late, I know you're weary
I know your plans don't include C
Still here we are, most of us lonely
Most of us lonely

We've got to fight, who needs more sorrow?
Let's make it past, let's find a way
Turn out and fight, come take my hand now
We've got to fight babe
Why not today?

We've got to fight, who needs more sorrow?
Let's make it past, let's find a way
Turn out and fight, come take my hand now
We've got to fight babe
Why not today?

We've got to fight, who needs more sorrow?
Let's make it past, let's find a way
Turn out and fight, come take my hand now
We've got to fight babe
Why not today?
Why not today?

  1. Just visiting from another "Hotel C" just down the road...Love the lyrics! Yes, we have to fight one day at a time.
