Introduction

The "Hotel Melanoma" moniker is a metaphor for living with my particular brand of cancer. Except for those lucky few of us deemed "cured", all we cancer survivors are guests of one of the many, many branded hotels in the "Hotel Carcinoma" chain. We can check out any time we like, but we can never leave. Meanwhile, let's be livin' it up; and please support cancer education, prevention, and treatment research.

Hell Bent For Lent

Just for grins and for all those future check-ins to The Hotel Melanoma who are still buying the carcinogens the American Suntanning Association is selling, to the tune of Jackson Browne’s “The Road And The Sky”…

When we come to the place where the moles and sun lights collide
Throw me over the edge and get my clinic ride
They told me I was going to have to work for more living
But all I want to do is hide
I don't care where we're going from here
M.D., you decide

Well I tanned my hide in the middle of the 60’s “well”
And I can hear my skin sizzling clear as a bell
I used to glow when days ended and my world was tan
But now C’s getting hard to quell
I could be just around the corner from Heaven or a mile from Hell

I'm just rolling away from leather days
Behind sunscreen after swollen lymph node craze
I'm going to get a little whiter
And see if I can hot-wire my IV tree

Now can you see those doc crowds gathering up ahead?
You’re going to flunk ‘skin cancer’ screens like derm bible said
Now you can hold on steady and try to be ready
But every Snooki's gonna get mets
Don't think it won't happen just because it hasn't happened yet

I'm just rolling away from leather days
Behind sunscreen after swollen lymph node craze
I'm going to get a little whiter
And see if I can hot-wire my IV tree
